How I Redesigned a Golf Cart Site
and Grew Traffic 3,620%

Guild Golf Carts had the products. Their website just wasn't selling them. I rebuilt the design from scratch and layered in local SEO — the site went from 287 to 8,776 monthly organic clicks.

Before & After

The Redesign

The old site looked like it was built in 2015 and never touched again. Cluttered, confusing, and impossible to use on a phone. Here's what it became.

The Problem

What Was Wrong

Good products, bad website. The site wasn't bad because it was ugly — it was bad because it didn't help anyone buy anything. Nobody could find it on Google, and when they did, they left.

The Design

Outdated look, too much clutter, bad on mobile, and branding that changed from page to page. People didn't know where to click.

The SEO

No local pages, no strategy for Portland searches, thin product descriptions, and Google couldn't crawl half the site properly.

The Goal

Get more leads, make the site actually convert, and become the first name people think of for golf carts in the Pacific Northwest.

What I Did

Design + SEO

These aren't two separate things. Good design helps SEO. Good SEO informs design. Here's what that looked like.

Design & UX

  • Full redesign — cleaner layout, better photography, consistent branding
  • Mobile-first — most buyers browse on their phones, so I started there
  • Simplified the nav from 12 items down to 5 clear paths
  • Built a product card system so every listing looks consistent
  • Added trust signals everywhere — reviews, warranty info, secure checkout

SEO & Content

  • Built location pages for Portland and nearby cities
  • Rewrote product pages with real descriptions people actually search for
  • Fixed the technical stuff — speed, schema markup, crawlability
  • Ran paid ads with landing pages built to convert — hit 8.27%
  • Set up analytics so we could see exactly where leads came from

Takeaways

What I Learned

01

Design and SEO aren't separate jobs

A beautiful site nobody finds is useless. An ugly site that ranks doesn't convert. You need both, and they need to inform each other.

02

Small fixes move the needle

Every broken link, every confusing button, every dead end — they all cost money. Fix them and the numbers follow.

03

Data beats opinions

Heatmaps and session recordings showed exactly where people gave up. No guessing — just fix what's broken.

Reflection

How I Think About This Work

01

Be honest with people

Clear pricing, real product photos, easy contact options. People spending $5K+ on a golf cart want to feel like they know what they're getting.

02

Mobile isn't optional

Most of their buyers start on a phone. If it doesn't work on a 6-inch screen, it doesn't work.

03

Systems save time

Reusable components meant I could build new pages in hours, not days. Everything stayed consistent without manual effort.
